Indeed Chew left his wife and went for Betty. Chew intended to bring Betty to Singapore and live with him. Betty was a very happy woman to be loved by Chew.
On his flights with long night stops,Chew would buy tickets and invited Betty to come along with him. They flew and stopped in LAX,SFO,AMS,LON and many other places.

Betty was too much

Betty was a little too much. She was demanding in bed as well as in other things. Each time I was in HK it was expected of me to call her. There were times when I didn't call her when I was in HK,she would be furious with me.

I was posted to B737 fleet

I was posted to the Boeing 737 fleet where an LS was the crew-in-charge. B737 was better for the LS as we did not have to report to anyone in the a/c. Of course the capt was the commander but we did not have to report to him on matters concerning the inflight service.


The sectors SIN/BKK/HKG vv was known as the Executive Luncheon sector. It was funny as I once had a stewardess who made an annoucement saying executive "lunch cheow" ( penis in Hokkein) flight. It was embarrassing to the paxs and all of us. She simply could not pronounce "luncheon" properly.


Many years later,I met the same stewardess on the street. She left the company in 1978 and I have not seen her since. She was beyond recognition as she was fat and looked liked an ah soh (old auntie).

There was a plump looking lady passenger from HKG (Hong Kong) who boarded my flight to BKK (Bangkok) in 1971 and we made friends. She was chubby and had a beautiful complexion. Promoted to a leading steward



Two years after flying as a galley steward (lowest rank)I was appointed as an LS
(leading steward)I was not paid much more except I was given a $75 monthly responsibility allowance for having 3 subordinates working under me on each flight(B707)plus looking after the bar sales and consumption items like whisky,brandy,perfumes,colognes etc...

Life as an LS was hectic. Besides serving paxs,I have to make sure the inflight service in the EY (economy class)which was under my charge ran smoothly and completed on time. I was also in charge of crew welfare and answerable to my CS (chief steward).
Selling of bar items was also a killer. Of the liquor for sales we only carried 3 bottles of Black Label whisky and 3 bottles of Remy Martin Brandy for sales.The demand for these 2 items were very strong. On flights into Japan,each pax was allowed a max of 3 bots of liquor by the custom authorities.Black Label was expensive in Japan. The cost of a bot of BL was 3 times more than the duty free ones we sold on board. Naturally the Japanese paxs would want to buy all the BL from us. We only had 3 bots and this caused us alot of headaches for we had to face the wrath fo these paxs. We were chided and scolded by the demanding Japanese paxs for not carrying more BL.
I remember on a flight where one of our Japanese stewardesses was abused by a Japanese pax not able to sell him even a bot of BL. In their own language,he abused her until she broke down and cried. I was so damn furious with that pax that I almost had a fight with him on the plane if not for a caucasian pax who stopped me. I was mad with the Japanese pax because the stewardess was bowing and kowtowing and at the same time apologising profusely in between sobs and he shouted at her.
I lost 5 kilograms in weight in the first week I was made an LS.

My steward days

Frankly,I enjoyed flying as a steward. I could get along with the senior crew,boys and girls alike and that was the most important thing you ought to have as a junior crew. You may call it sucking up to the seniors but it's ok cos it made my working life easier,you know what I mean. I think it's the same in the army too.

I drank,gambled and did all sorts of things my senior crew wanted me to do,short of being screwed in the ass...hehehe. I had a good time with the stewardesses and senior stewards. We enjoyed our stay overseas,drinking and partying in 5 star hotels. We picked up lady passengers and had them with us in the hotel rooms.

It was Seoul that brings back lots of memories of the beautiful Korean gals.
Seoul,under marshal law then was a place where the young Korean chicks would want to marry foreigners and this was where we came in. We were literary picked up by the Koreans chicks working in ginseng shops,cafes,hotels etc and some of them married our colleagues. Mind you we were young then, around 25 years old and singles.
You have to understand that during the early 1970s, the Koreans can't easily obtain travel visa like now.It was a dictator ruling the country and the law was severely strict. So you see,Koreans were trying to flee the country and long to start a better life outside like in the USA,UK,Australia,Singapore etc.

Of course many of us guys took advantage of the situation and broke many Korean gals' hearts. We just play,play with them you know like Phua Chu Kang used to say.

Oh my gosh...only Koreans chicks?? No la cos there were the Aussie gals, Taiwanese birds, English pussies,Indonesian and Malaysian Aminahs too....Good things there were no such a thing as AIDS or Herpes or else many of us sure kena one.

Senior gals

Sometimes working with the very senior stewardesses were worst. They made you worked for them even during the night stops. Besides carrying their shopping for them (those days we don't have trolleys)and sharing rooms with them you would sometimes have to act like pimps for them.
If they were interested in "kow suaing" some rich passengers,you would have to act as pimps for them.You would have to subtly find out whether those passengers were married men or not and how rich were they etc. You would then be commanded to find out whether they were interested in the gals. If they were,then you would have to arrange a date for them. The gals would tried to be the goody goody type to those rich passengers.
At times when these aunties were tired,they would make you massage them in the hotel rooms. These sessions could go on for an hour or two. At the end of it all,the aunties would reward you with a peck on your cheeks. Dare you try to get fresh with them cos would be sacked when you reach home(most had BFs in the office or senior male crew or captains).

Senior crew.

The more senior you were the better privileges you would have. Privileges or perks as you may call them came in the form of sleeping with new and cute stewardesses or stewards,junior crew polishing your "apples",buying and serving you yummy meals,making pimps out of junior crew etc.
Senior crew were of both sexes. Those days the junior crew were like today's maids but with no police to report the abuses. One report to the office about these seniors behaviour will have the whole gang of senior crew coming down hard on you. You would get abused and falsely reported to the office about your "inability" to function as a crew.
Many of us stewards were made to share hotel rooms with the senior stewardesses who were "scared" of ghosts. If we refused, we would be marked and life would be miserable. Ha! you filthy minded guys would think we stewards were stupid to refuse. You probably think why not screw these senior gals in the room. If you dare touch even their hair,you would probably be sacked.Sharing room was one thing but we were made to serve and carried their shoppings.......aiyah more to come lah

First Tokyo flight

Those senior crew

It's a great challenge to work under various types of senior crew. Senior stewardesses were as bad as senior male crew. Most were bullies and would not hesitate to make lives difficult for us junior stewards. To have a comfortable and less stressful flights we had to lick their asses,so to speak.

During the stop overseas, we were treated like servants and had to look after their welfare. When they drank silly,we (jr. stewards)had to carry them back to the hotel rooms. When they screwed in the aircraft toilets,we had to be on the watch for them. When they were tired of the girls, they would forced us to service them. Not that we don't want to but some of their girls were fat,old and ugly. When they lose their money in gambling we had to lend them whatever we had.
On board,we had to serve them drinks and food before we were allowed to eat.We had to reserve the best of the first class food for them. We ate only the leftovers. There were times, we had to polish their shoes for them.Only thing they didn't asked us to do was to sleep with their wives and produced kids for them.
Made a mistake in the service and you would get a plate thrown at you. Cursed words,vulgarities were not uncommon. When we complained to the office about the bullying,our big bosses would asked us to quit. We were even called sissies if we could stomach such abuses.
In today's context, those senior crew would have been fined and jailed for their often abusive and violent behaviour.
We plodded on and tolerated those treatments because we wanted the job badly. 
As for the junior stewardesses they got a better life if they were cute,sexy and obliging. Most got away from the abusive treatment because they were able to please those senior crew.
